“I do it for the joy it brings because I am a joyful girl, I do it because
the word owes me nothing, and we owe each other the world”-Singer/songwriter
Ani Difranco
The above has become somewhat of a mantra for Michelle Appezzato’s life over
the course of the past few years as her dedication to producing quality
work, work that could potentially change the increasingly harsh reality of
the world that we live in has amplified and her enormous amount of love and
respect for the industry and art produced within that industry has remained
constant and thriving.
In 2005 Michelle was the Entertainment Coordinator for the country’s largest
High School Theatre Festival. Duties that she preformed included: securing
industry representatives which preformed quality workshops for students
involved in the festival; holding auditions to find the most outgoing and
talented individuals within Fullerton College’s Theatre Arts Department who
would become the entertainment corps; and maintaining constant communication
with other festival leaders to ensure continuity and cohesiveness within the
festival’s theme. In 2006 Michelle took on a much larger role in the
Fullerton College Theatre Festival as she took on the position of the
Workforce Coordinator. As workforce coordinator Michelle lead all executive
board meetings prior to the festival beginning in the fall of 2005. The
leadership position was integral to sustaining positive attitudes and work
ethic of over 150 volunteers. The efficiency in which she utilized this
volunteer workforce was flawless as the festival ran smoothly and a position
never went unfilled. Time management and organization have become key
elements to uphold the high quality of work that Michelle produces; the
major venture of heading up the nations largest high school theatre festival
was not the only project that she was involved in over the past few years.
In the fall of 2005 Michelle served as the Stage Manager for the main stage
production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. According to Lawrence Stern
author of Stage Management 8th Edition, a good stage manager: assumes
responsibility, keeps their cool, thinks ahead, are considerate, keeps their
sense of humor, are organized and efficient, and are punctual and
dependable. Michelle constantly maintained high levels of each of these
qualities throughout her work on the Crucible. The position required her to
collaborate with others to generate production calendars. She worked closely
with house managers, designers, cast members, various crewmembers, and the
director in order to ensure constant communication between every part of the
production. While Michelle loves her work and is a very dedicated student
and industry member, there are things that she enjoys immensely during the
little time off that she has.
Traveling has been a long time adoration of Michelle’s. From the time she
was a child she enjoyed taking in the various energies of metropolitan
cities and small towns on both coasts of the country. She is familiar with
all aspects of travel, completely aware of her surroundings and she
constantly discovers hidden treasures in the destinations she is headed for.
This love for travel combined with her background and experience will
contribute significantly to the professionalism and quality of the project
at hand. She will continue to “do it for the joy it brings.”
